Hi! I’m Kate, and I love to cook. Several years ago, I tested the wonderful cookbooks Hot Cheese and The Pepper Thai Cookbook, with lovely acknowledgments in the backs, too, and I occasionally still add to my collection of over 90 cookbooks. I created this site around that time as a celebration of the chefs and their teams of photographers, designers, editors, testers, and publishers who give us the gifts of their talent, time, and heart, in hardcover.

Today, the site serves as an event portfolio with writing samples. I am happy to provide a full resume at katemalay (at) gmail.

All of the writing and photography are my own, which means that, yes, I’ve chased four live blue crabs across my kitchen counter with not nearly long enough tongs, by myself, and you can, too! (Just please do not take the content, I have multiple litigators in my family who care about me, and I wouldn’t mess—they prefer dungeness!)

Thank you for visiting, and happy cooking!
